How to Get Border Patrol Jobs in Montana
Located in the Western United States is the State of Montana with its numerous mountains and trout-filled rivers. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection maintains a presence in the state not only because it shares a border with Canada but because it also has numerous ports of entry that needs to be protected from the threats of terrorists, illegal migrants, weapons, and smuggled goods. There are 16 ports of entry in Montana maintained by the CBP. These are located in Bozeman Yellowstone (a User Fee Airport); Butte Airport; Del Bonita; Area Port Great Falls (a Service Port); Kalispell Airport; Morgan; Opheim; Piegan; Raymond; Roosville; Scobey; Sweetgrass; Turner; Whitlash; Wild Horse; and Willow Creek.
To qualify for Montana Border Patrol jobs, you should see to it that you meet the key requirements to qualify. These are the following: 1) You must be a U.S. citizen; 2) Be under 40 years old at the time of appointment; 3) Meet the residency requirements—you must have resided in the U.S. or its protectorates or territories for three years before applying; 4) Possess a valid Montana driver’s license; and 5) Meet the experience and/or education requirements. If using experience to qualify, you should have at least one year work experience that highlights your ability to stay cool and make rational decisions even with danger facing you right in the face. Experience gleaned in paid and unpaid work qualifies. If using education to qualify as an entry-level Border Patrol Agent, you will need to have a bachelor’s degree to be considered. A combination of education and experience may also be used to qualify for Border Patrol Agent positions in Mississippi.
The CBP also hires CBP Officers in Montana to ensure that no unlawful entrants or smuggled goods make it past its points of entry. The basic requirements to become a CBP Officer are pretty much similar to what is required of Border Patrol Agents. However, instead of 40 years old, CBP Officer applicants must be under 37 years old to be considered. Instead of only one year of work experience, they must have at least three (3) years of full-time general experience that demonstrates the ability to meet and deal with people and the ability to learn and apply a body of facts. At the entry-level, CBP Officers can qualify if they have a bachelor’s degree.
For both positions, applicants will have to undergo an intensive hiring process that includes passing written entrance examinations; physical fitness tests; background check; drug test; medical evaluation; and oral board interviews. For the background check, the CBP hiring officers will have to check your criminal, employment, and credit records. A misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence or felony conviction will immediately disqualify you from these posts. Previous firings for as long as these have just cause as well as a derogatory credit record could hurt your chances as well, although these are not automatic disqualifiers.

Border Patrol Agents who are hired need to complete a 58-day paid training at the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, NM. The academy gives instruction on laws; firearms training; Spanish language instruction; and other courses to equip the new recruits with the knowledge and skills to enable them to do their jobs. Passing all the courses is necessary before the new recruits are sent to their Montana duty stations.
